Freak
02.24.05 (1:24 pm)   [edit]
Sometimes at night, I lie in bed and freak myself out. I think about scary movies like The Ring, and this really dumb movie I saw when I was 9 which freaked me out then, I’ve seen it since and it is dumb, but the nine year old terror sticks with me.

Or, I think about what would happen if a crazy person walked into my house while I was home alone with The Ruler. What would I do? How would I get the baby and myself out of the house safely?

I lie in bed and hope that the crazy person comes in when The Ruler is napping and I promise myself that if he rapes me and kills me I’ll be really really quiet so The Ruler won’t wake up and then maybe the crazy person will leave without knowing there’s a baby in the house.

I promise myself that I will do everything in my power including dieing if it keeps my son safe.

Those thoughts freak me out.

I also worry sometimes that I’m really going to screw up my son’s social life by being a witch. I used to work for this woman who had a seven year old son. One day at school, for some unknown reason, the little boys were talking about Christians. Well, my bosses son pipes up that he’s Buddhist (he’s not really) and the little boys beat the snot out of him.

Did they even know what a Buddhist was?

And, where are seven year olds learning that it’s worth beating up a kid who’s not Christian. I know, I know, they pick it up from their parents.

See the weird thing is though, that I highly doubt any of these boys knew what a Christian really was either. I doubt many, if any went to church, so I don’t see where this was all coming from.

I worry that The Ruler is going to have a tough enough time at school as it is, and I’m just adding to it cuz his mums “different.”

I don’t know this has just been on my mind. There are other things I want to write about but I needed to get this out of the way first.

Spells and the Modern Witch
02.23.05 (11:20 am)   [edit]
What’ the first thing you think of when you hear the word “Witch”?

And no, I don’t mean “Black mass, Baby eating, or Devil worship.”

Spells. It’s spells right? Love spells, money spells; luck, lust, vengeance, hexes, curses all of these words pop up when someone mentions the word witch.

So just how important are casting spells to witches?

Do they really do that sort of thing? And if so, how do they do it?

And, why the hell doesn’t it work like on, “Buffy the Vampire slayer” or “Charmed.”?

Of pretty much all of the true blue Witches and Pagans that I’ve spoken with, spells and the casting of spells is secondary to their faith. There are many who have been a Witch for all of their lives and never cast a single spell.

This is because the true nature of been a Witch has nothing to do with making it rain or floating feathers around in the air. Witchcraft is about honouring the Divine and honouring Nature and the Earth as Divine. This is why we fall into the category of “earth based religion”.

Most witches believe that Gaia, mother earth, is Divine, and that we are all created from the Divine source, we too are Divine, deserving the same respect and honour we give our Gods.

So where do spells fit in? Everyone’s childhood image of a Witch is that of hag with a green face, stirring a cauldron and saying an incantation to turn someone into a frog.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. I don’t know a single Witch with a green face. I do know many with cauldrons, and I’ve memorised an incantation or two. But frogs are icky, I stay away from them.

Witches do cast spells. This is a truth. Why?

Why do people say bless you when you sneeze, why do people say I’ll be thinking of you, on your birthday or some other special occasion?

Why do people pray?

All because we humans believe that, somehow, our thoughts and our emotions can somehow change things. We believe that:

By willing it we can get a parking spot four feet closer to the grocery store.

If we pray really, really hard when a loved one is ill, they will get better.

Or, if we wear the same socks everyday during the play-offs our team will win.

The casting of spells is no different. Witches cast spells because they believe they can affect change.

But, Prayers and Spells are different. Praying is good, spells are evil and controlling.

Witches are bound by two rules that make the casting of evil, controlling spells not only against the Divine, but also bad for them personally, The Wiccan Rede and The Law of Three.

The Wiccan Rede is a very long work of poetry, and I don’t know a single witch who’s read the entire thing. However, the last couple of lines are what matters;
“Do as you will and harm none,” remarkably similar to the Golden Rule.

Witches follow this rule and know that whatever spell they choose to cast, whether on themselves or for another, must not bring harm to another. This makes casting a spell very tricky.

How can you cast a spell for yourself to get your dream job, when it means that someone else could get fired?

Can you cast a love spell on someone who truly doesn’t love you back? Doing so, many bring harm to that person as they fight against the energy of the spell. Or, yourself if the love spell makes that person obsessed and dangerous.

The Wiccan Rede makes it necessary for a witch to weigh all the possible consequences to their actions not just in spell casting, but in their daily lives as well. Wouldn’t it be nice if that rule applied to world governments?

The Law of Three is the second rule that Witches follow. It says essentially that all the energy that you put out, in spell casting, will come back to you three fold, similar to the laws of Karma, but more potent.

If we put out good energy with our spells, we get it back three times as strong and vice versa for vengeful, nasty spells. It is not in the best interests of a Witch to cast evil spells.

Many witches interpret the law to mean that the same events will keep repeating in our lives until we learn the lesson. If we do something wrong or “evil” the consequences of that action will continue to haunt us until we learn from it.

The casting of a spell is actually very easy. Many Witches put a lot of flourish and ritual into it to help them focus their energy, and it’s a lot more fun. But really, casting a spell is a lot like saying a prayer.

One takes some quiet time to themselves, perhaps lights a candle, and concentrates their intent on the task at hand, be it a spell or a prayer.

Intent means to focus; they give up every other thought in their heads and focus on the one thought. Perhaps they are casting a spell for a loved one to feel better.

The witch would think very hard about that person feeling better, looking better, and maybe they imagine that person is up and about again. They would concentrate on that image, perhaps say a rhyme or poem about healing, or they may take a cord and bind the illness by tying it in knots.

Whatever they do, the intent is to help their friend heal and feel better.

Some Witches use different tools to help them focus their thoughts, a candle or a wand are very common. So are crystals. Yet, casting a spell can be as simple as looking up in the sky and asking for what they want.

So why don’t spells work like thy do on TV?

Cuz it’s TV and fake. Although it seems very contrary to the airy fairy ways of being a witch, most witches are very pragmatic and understand that the laws of physics govern over spell craft. In ancient times there was no separation of magic and science, there were one and the same. Great pioneers in science, such as Pythagoras, are revered as great contributors to both science and magic!

Because the laws of physics govern spells we can’t make pencils float or hair turn different colours. That’s just the way it is. Although I don’t know a single Witch, who wouldn’t think it would be cool to have that power.

Like prayer, spells can be very useful in the daily life of a witch. They can make a person feel that they have some control over a chaotic situation and feel as if they are helping when there’s really nothing that can be done. Spell casting is proactive and for many a regular part of their lives. For many Witches though, it is take a back seat to their faith and is more of an added bonus.

One of my favourite Healing Spells uses this Poem:

Celtic Blessing for Healing

I wish healing upon you,
The healing of Mary with me,
Mary, Michael, and Brighd
Be with me all three.

Your pain and sickness
Be in earth’s depths,
Be upon the gray stones,
For they are enduring.

Fly with the birds of the air,
Fly with the wasps of the hill,
Swim with the sea going whale,
For they are the swiftest.

Be upon the clouds of the sky,
For they are the rainiest
Be upon the rivers current
Cascading to the sea.

Trans. C Mattews, from Carmina Gadelica

This is a very well known spell that can be adapted to suit one’s purpose. It is every good

Traditional Nine Knot Spell

By knot of one, the spell's begun.
By knot of two, I make it true.
By knot of three, so mote it be.
By knot of four, the open door.
By knot of five, the spell's alive.
By the spell of six, the spell is fixed.
By the spell of seven, the earth and heaven.
By the spell of eight, the stroke of fate.
By the spell of nine, the thing is mine.

First day of wearing Sandals!
02.22.05 (11:42 am)   [edit]
This is why I love Vancouver. Today was the first day we wore sandals outside!. Without socks of course, I’m no hippie witchy.

It has been unseasonably warm and sunny here in Vancouver, all about that global warming, which freaks me out to be sure.

So the Ruler (a small baby) and I wore our sandals to playgroup and we really didn’t need our sweaters, but all the other mums had sweaters on their kids, so I dragged one over the Rulers head. It’s bad enough I get nasty looks for not always brushing his hair, my tattoos, and the fact that I’ve got my girlish figure back and he’s only 18 months. I don’t need them all thinking I neglect him and let him run around cold.

I know a lot of the nasty looks I get are simply because I look like a teen mom dragging around a snotty nosed kid, but let me see you try to pry nose gremlins out of a hyper toddler and see how far you get.

I suppose that it doesn’t help that I commonly wear my witchy jewellery when we’re out too. It’s not big and flashy. I don’t have a diamond studded six inch pentacle or anything, I’ve seem much more garish crosses at playgroup. I just wear a triple moon with a moon stone in the middle. Looks like this )O(

No one ever asks about it. No one ever says a thing about it being a Goddess symbol, or a Wiccan symbol or anything. They just stare. Then they see the Ruler in his Black West Coast Choppers t-shirt and baggy infant cargo pants and the judgement is made.

Sinning-Teen-mum-with- rebellious-child-risking- neglect.

Some would say, don’t wear the jewellery, don’t make a statement and they won’t stare, they won’t judge. Yeah right. The Judgements are always there.

With or without the jewellery, I’m still a skinny teen looking mum and in the land of ‘still carrying the baby weight’, that’s a mortal sin.

Okay, I’m really just whining now.

It’s beautiful day, the sun is shining and it’s warm enough to wear sandals without socks outside, which makes the Ruler smile.

People all over the world are blogging for freedom. I’m still relatively new to the blogosphere, so I’m still realising the scope of with this universe it like. It’s pretty cool to be a part of something like this, even in my own little way.

Really at this point I’m just rambling while I wait for a friend to come on line so I can teach her Reiki. Sounds weird I know, but it’s the plan. http://www.geocities.com/fair...

gotta go now student has a arrived…

ARASH SIGARCHI HAS BEEN ARRESTED

Reporters Without Borders http://www.rsf.org/rubrique.p... reports that journalist and blogger Arash Sigarchi, of the blog Panhjareh Eltehab, has been arrested.

According to the group, Sigarchi was arrested on January 17, after responding to a summons from the intelligence ministry in the northern city of Rashat. He has been held at Rashat's Lakan Prison where he has been denied the right to see a lawyer and bail has been set at 200 million rials (about $25,000 U.S.). The authorities have put pressure on his mother to deny that her son has been arrested.

His weblog had been banned by authorities in Iran for speaking out against recent arrests of cyberjournalists and bloggers (see below) and is inaccessible within the country. In addition to his blog, he is the editor of the daily Gylan Emroz. A few days before his arrest he was interviewed by two foreign radio stations, the BBC World Service and Radio Farda.

On August 27 of last year he was imprisoned for several days for an article, illustrated with photographs, of a rally in Tehran by families of prisoners who were executed in 1989.

Nearly 20 people have been arrested over the past three months in a crackdown against the online press. Apart from Sigarchi, another weblogger, Mojtaba Saminejad (see below), is still in prison.

At the start of January, Tehran's prosecutor-general, Said Mortazavi, ordered Internet Service Providers to block the main weblogs - Orkut, Nedstat, Blogspot, Persianblog, Blogrolling and others. Iranian Internet-users are now almost entirely cut off from the blogsphere.

We join RWB in condemning this continued oppression by the Iranian government and in calling on those countries taking part in the World Summit on the Information Society http://www.itu.int/wsis/ to officially condemn these repeated breaches of freedom of expression. Iran is due to send a delegation to the upcoming preparatory meeting in Geneva next month.

Transgressions of a Law
02.21.05 (3:27 pm)   [edit]
In one of the discussion groups I belong to, this came up as a topic to chat about.

The Foundations of High Magick by Dennings and Phillips

There is a law, which is acknowledged in both the Lesser and in the Greater Mysteries, yet few people follow it out to its logical conclusion. It is, that a person who falsely lays claim to any power shall never truly possess that power.......that he who falsely claims to possess a link with the Inner Planes is thereby securing his own complete exclusion from them. He has placed himself in a far worse position than that of the unevolved "man in the street," who has at any rate his natural life-link with the higher levels even if he is unaware of it.

The question is, what kind of behaviour(s), in specific, do you think may be involved in "transgression" of this "law"?

My answer:

In Reiki training one learns that “ego” is not involved in healing. One has to learn to let go of ‘self’ and allow the universe to do the healing work. The healer becomes the conduit for the healing energy to pass through. They direct it, but in the end they have no real control over the energy.

One learns that “the healing that needs to occur does” and that the energy knows better and will go and heal where it is needed.

When one believes they are powerful, “I can heal you!” they are in transgression of the law.

When ego gets involved with healing or magic, the person with the ego begins to look down on others. They feel they are better because they posses more knowledge and more power than the people around him. They feel that for some reason the universe has singled them out and that makes them better.

This is a transgression of the law.

A long time ago, I was working in a crystal store in a waterfront market. Across the hallway was an herbal store that kept a selection of free healing magazines out front. One day two women came in to my store. They had a pile of the magazines in their hands and I watched as they stuffed a brochure into each one and then they, secretly, put the magazines back on the rack.

I asked them what they were doing and they handed me their brochure about reiki classes they were holding. They had just become Reiki Masters. I had recently completed my master level too, but didn’t tell them that.

They said that they wanted to advertise in the magazines, but thought that if they asked the manager of the herb store she would say no. So, they put their brochures in, in secret.

I knew the manager very well and she wouldn’t have said no.

My point though is that they were being secretive about their intentions and their knowledge. They felt powerful as Reiki Masters, but also lacked the confidence to request something as simple as putting some brochures in magazines.

This is a transgression of the law.

My other example of a transgression also comes from Reiki World. One of the biggest issues in Reiki is its secretive nature. When one learns Reiki, they learn a number of ‘symbols’ that are meant to be kept secret and only Reiki people should know them. This is the thought of Traditional Reiki.

There is a Non-traditional movement that believes that keeping such things secret is just plain silly, for two reasons. One, Reiki involves attunement to these symbols, so even if you know what the symbols look like, one needs to be attuned to them before they are useful in healing.

Attunement is like tuning a radio; if it’s not “plugged in”, it doesn’t work. Once you “plug it in” then you can tune it to all different stations. When you are attuned to Reiki, you can access the different symbols.

Two, keeping knowledge secret give you pseudo power over people, as I wrote above. I call it pseudo power because you don’t really, but many feel like they do and they want it for their own confidence levels, their own Ego.

So, my big long post comes back to Ego. Which, I believe is the biggest transgression of the Law, allowing your Ego to place higher than others, or even the Divine.

A Breath of Fresh Air
02.21.05 (2:09 pm)   [edit]
I am at this point in time completely in awe of a recent comment at my blog. And I mean awe in a good way. I feel like this weight has been lifted, and maybe just maybe all of the mess that's been going around is going to get cleaned up and washed away.

And it's all because of Lynnkrammer. Honest. For the first time ever I believe that Lynn has finally -finally- left a comment that was actually written, and not generated by a computer program.

Now, I don't agree with all that Lynn wrote, and if I find out that it was generated, won't the egg be on my face!

BUT I believe Lynn wrote it because it was written thoughtfully and with respect and such a strength of belief behind it, that I feel like a breath of Fresh air has swept through and brought the scent of spring flowers with it.

I expect that Lynn and I will never agree on, well, anything and that's just the way it is in this world. We all can't get along all the time. But we can learn to respect each other and allow each other to have their differences.

I wish to say Thank You to Lynn for posting an honest comment at my blog. Those comments are welcome and I do hope that if you chose to continue reading my posts you will do so with an open mind.

New Name
02.20.05 (5:42 pm)   [edit]
I have changed the name of this blog.

Why?

Originally, the intent of this blog was to chronicle the creation of a Correllian Shrine, Raven’s Moon. However, we (the Shrine) have our own sites now where each member can post their own input and information.

This blog has become rather personal and, over the past few days especially, has had very little to do with Shrine Creation. I do not feel it is appropriate to affiliate the Correllian Tradition or the Shrine with what has been going on here. This is my personal business and I need to create a separating line.

The Shrine now has its Metaphysical home at Geocites http://www.geocities.com/fair... and Yahoo http://groups.yahoo.com/group...

This Blogs new name is Demystifying Misconceptions of The Craft, a mouthful to be sure. A big name with big ideas.

What does it mean?

Pagans and The Craft are greatly misunderstood. The definitions that most people have of Witch and Witchcraft are incorrect for what modern Witches are today. People preach that we are evil and Satan worshippers and this causes fear and hate.

There is a lot of struggle and strife between religions in the world today. So much of it is caused by fear and misunderstanding of other world faiths.

Knowledge of religions and faiths that are not our own brings understanding and creates commonalities between people. When we understand each other, we respect each other and realize that each of us is not so different or alone in the universe.

This is my goal. To write about The Craft in a way that shares what we witches are all about, to put the misconceptions about this faith to rest, to show that we are not the fearful -green -faced -warty -nosed -hags of fairy tales.

This blog is about the need to challenge misconceptions and the desire to be more than the title’s some judge us by.

my own hate blog too
02.19.05 (8:28 am)   [edit]
I'm disappointed that I didn't know about my hate blog a little earlier. I feel so out of the loop. However, I googled myself and it popped up. Like Dr. Forbush, http://www.tblog.com/template... who's not sure if he should be proud or a little scared, I'm a little unsure myself.

Though I'll admit, it makes me feel like I'm making some sort of difference in the world if people feel so strongly that they must comment on my writing. Even bad press is good press when it gives you attention. Which really isn't that what we bloggers are seeking? Attention? Why else would we publish our rambles? We could just write them in a journal that we hide under our beds.

Granted the source of my hate blog isn't as interesting as Dr. Forbush's, but hey what can I do I' haven't been writing about my stuff as long as him. I'm sure I'll get one as prestigious as him soon enough.

Ah well, I'm excited to tell my parents, they'll be so proud. There’s the link to my hate blog

Well, a little bit of sleuthing by some friendly witches pays off.

Guess what we've discovered?

Well just hang on to your pants for a minute while i explain.

There is a website out there, url forthcoming, that allows you to generate complaint letters of a desirable length, 3 paragraphs, 5 or even 10!

I visited it this morning and after putting in my name and how many paragraphs I would like, I got a remarkably good letter of complaint that made absolutely no sense, used a lot of big words in inappropriate places, and in the end was a very long winded ramble.

Now we all know that this sounds very much like some comments I have received here, and that many others at tblog have received.

I AM IN NO WAY AM MAKING ANY SORT OF ACCUSATION, my opinion is completely unfounded, yet as they love to say incessantly on CSI the evidence speaks for itself. Go see for yourself,

And now the website and one final word. http://www.pakin.org/complain...

Ah well. Sometimes the more you try to leave, the more you end up staying right where you are. When it comes right down to it. I love the wackiness of this place to much to wander off to another blog. Besides, I’ve made some many lovely friends here you obviously enjoy my posts so much they keep coming back to see what I’m doing in my corner of cyberspace.

Bloggers are exhibitionist writers. They want what they write to be read, they want comments and to create debate, at least the interesting ones anyways.

Generally, I’ve found that most bloggers are just “putting their stuff out there, not so much to preach or teach, but to share thoughts and ideas.”

Which is my intention. I’m not try to convert anyone, or say my faith is better. I’m simply sharing my faith.

I greatly enjoy a lot of the blogs here at Tblog, and I’m very appreciative of the fact that mine has made an impression too.

Why Am I babbling about this? Mostly because of the most recent post placed in my blog. See comments in “new blog site”.

I'll make a few comments, then I’ll move on.

The only reason I do not ban that writer from posting here, is that this writer seems to glean so much joy from his ramblings.

Two, I’m Canadian. This makes comments about my effect on his government nul and void. It’s odd that the most bothersome part of his droning post was that little detail.

Oh well, I’m sure THIS post will also bless me with another longwinded ramble, I guess that’s a choice I have to live with.

May you be blessed with an interesting life Lynn.

A Witch’s Story of Creation
02.13.05 (6:24 am)   [edit]

A Witch’s Story of Creation

(Adapted from Vangelo Delle Streghe,
Legends of Aradian Witchcraft)

In the beginning there was Diana. She was every, all. She was the Primeval Deity, existing before even chaos, before time. Within Her she held the eggs of all that could be.

She was the Crone Goddess and She was Spirit and Matter, Yin and Yang.

And She was alone.

She spent unknown amounts of time, resting and dreaming about what could be. She became curious about the power that She held within her. She ached for companionship, so She divided herself in to two.

She remained Spirit, dark, ethereal, mysterious and feminine. Her new Companion became Matter, light, substantial, clear and masculine. God came in to existence with a spark, a flame and a big bang.

“Out of Herself, the first Darkness, She divided Herself. Into Darkness and Light She was divided. The God, Her brother and son, Herself and Her other Self, was the Light.”*

God; Matter, spread out creating the universe, while Diana rested and watched what she had done. As Matter cooled stars formed, then planets with oceans and land. The vibrations that held Matter together with Spirit slowed as the cooling took place. Energy became less in the cooler matter and spheres of existence began to form.

As God “fell into Matter” there were seven spheres; Divine, Monadic, Egoic/ Soular, Astral, Mental, Emotional, Physical. Each one cooler than then the last; each one at a slower vibration.

“And when Diana saw that the light was so beautiful, the light which was Her other half, her brother the God, She yearned for it with exceeding great desire. Wishing to receive the light again into Her darkness, to swallow it up in rapture, in delight, She trembled with desire. And this trembling was the first dawn.

But the God’s light fled from Her and would not yield to Her wishes. He was the light which flies into the most distant parts of heaven, the mouse which flies before the cat.”*

Again Diana felt alone. She had created a Companion who fled from her. She wished to feel and touch the physical world that God had created, but she could not. She could only watch from a distance and dream. Wondering what to do she spent much time in contemplation and then seemingly from nowhere a voice came to her. It was the voice of her oldest and forgotten self. The voice of Diana before she became two.

“How could she reunite with the God?” She asked this voice. “How could she take matter back within herself?”

And The Mothers and Fathers who were before creation answered, “To rise You must fall. To become the greatest of all Goddesses, You must first become a mortal.”*

It was not possible for Spirit to take Matter back within. To Experience her dream she must enter the physical world. Then, and only then would the Goddess and God be again One.
So Diana “fell”. As she did she stripped herself parts of her being, they became many souls, which took physical form in the physical sphere. These souls would lead many lives and go through many physical forms.

In the physical sphere the Goddess took the form of a cat and in this way she purred her way into the God’s arms. She then returned to her original form and they made love. Thus placing soul within Matter. She used her powers to set the universe into motion.

“She sang a charm, and her voice was as the buzzing of bees. And then Diana sat at Her spinning wheel and began to spin the thread of life, and the God turned the wheel.”*
Diana continued to spin the threads of destiny. She put her energy into determining the nature of the souls now in physical form. She became the “Nature of Living.”
The God turns the wheel creating the journey and giving movement and to the souls. He is the “Process of Living.”

The very essence of life, the divine spark that animates all living things comes from the Goddess, while the God carries the spark forward through time and space.

We humans take our essence from the Goddess, our ability to grow and change from the God. We are always a part of the immortal Goddess, even when we descend from the divine sphere to take physical form. When we descend we forget what is above, although a few of us seem to be born of an old soul and vaguely remember what it was like with the Goddess.

It is said that we are living on the mental plane. We have grown and risen up from the physical, through the emotional, but continue to keep our awareness of the lower planes. Many humans are beginning to transcend to the astral sphere where intuition and psychic abilities prevail.
