Raven’s Moon Shrine’s Dedication
01.27.05 (6:00 am) [edit]
Raven’s Moon Shrine’s Dedication
This Shrine exists to provide a place for people to learn about and participate in Witchcraft, here after called The Craft.
This shrine is dedicated, particularly, but not limited too:
1. Gnosis-Knowledge in all forms; from all sources. With knowledge comes power. Not the sort of power that can be wielded over others, but rather knowledge that provides one with power within themselves and the confidence to be true to themselves. We seek this knowledge from all sources, pagan and not, Correllian and other traditions, religious and secular, magical and scientific. Sofia, Goddess of Gnosis, watches over this study.
2. Dark Mysteries- the study and practice of moon magic, feminine magic, the power of the dark, crone magic, divination, and psychic abilities. We seek to learn more about the power in our own abilities, the mysterious in the world and ‘darker nature in our souls’. Hecate watches over this area of study.
3. Web of Life- “As above, so below; as the universe, so the soul; as within, so without”, we seek to understand the interconnected nature of the universe. We seek to understand our place within the universe and our own individuality.
We can achieve this in many ways. Some possible ways to do this would be:
a. The environment- By exploring environmental issues, our relationship with the environment, how the economy, politics, and material needs affect it, we see Mother Earth as a whole, and can better understand why changes may be needed to reach global sustainability. We may begin small, within our daily lives and local communities, yet even small seeds can grow into big trees.
b. Healing- be it energy healing, herbal wisdom, or any other form of healing. We seek to understand better the healing faiths in the world. And work at healing ourselves, our community and world around us.
c. Energy- we seek to better understand the nature of energy in the universe and how it effects us and how we can effect it; for healing, creativity, and creating connections in the world.
d. Personal Creativity- Through personal expression, whatever the medium, we can explore our relationship with the universe, the divine and our place in it.
Brighid, Goddess of the hearth, watches over this area of study.
4. Demystifying Misconceptions and Interfaith Relationships- Pagans and The Craft are greatly misunderstood in the world today. There is a lot of struggle and strife between religions, and on a smaller scale within the pagan community as well. The shrine seeks to help bridge these misunderstandings though personal conduct and education within the pagan community and with of faiths. The Goddess Blodewedd represents the need to challenge misconceptions and the desire to be more than the title’s we are judged by. She watches over this area of study. 5. Not taking ourselves too seriously- as important and fulfilling as personal grow and study is, all too often we forget to laugh at ourselves and how silly it is to ‘be a witch’. Laughter is always a vital part of any experience and the shrine will always encourage its members to smile, laugh and enjoy their studies and journey with the craft. If we forget and get to serious, the Fae, who watch over this area of study, and truly all areas, will surely remind us by bopping us over the head with our own wands.
The Shrine is dedicated to these above topics, though all its members may choose their own path within these areas, or without. As one of the wee ones in known to say, “One needs ground to stand on, if one’s going to fly away.”
These are but mere guidelines from which we can draw topics of study and conversation. As the shrine evolves so, will our choices and interests.

Membership in the Shrine
01.26.05 (3:14 pm) [edit]
Before seeking membership:
1. Read, Shrine’s Dedication Article. It is not required that a member follows all of what the Shrine stands for, though it is necessary that members respect what the shrine is dedicated to and has some interest in the topics. As these are the topics we will study in our study group and structure our rituals around (most of the time).
2. Review, The Patrons of the Shrine Members do not have to have these Goddesses as their personal patrons, but again respect is required.
3. If you are unfamiliar with the Correllian Nativist Tradition, it is very important that you view their website and gain understanding of what we believe in. One does not have to be affiliated with the Tradition in anyway, but as this will be a shrine connected to the Tradition respect of its faith is vital.
4. Read the Shrines By-Laws (under construction)
5. Answer this question: Am I really a witchypoo or is this just a fad thing cuz my best friend and I tried a spell and we’re pretty sure we made a pencil float just like the chick in “The Craft”?
(Definition of Witchypoo: I am committed to learning and/or practicing The Craft or the occult. I understand what witchcraft is and believe in it. My views may differ greatly from the witch sitting next to me, but I understand that we each walk a different path to the divine.)
If you answer Witchypoo, continue with the membership procedure, if the latter, come back in five years after you’ve read more than just Teen Witch, and have realized that you are not Willow or one of the Charmed Ones. (not to disrespect Teen Witch, it’s a great book, just go read other ones too)
Types of Membership
There are two types of membership- or a combination of both.
Metaphysical Membership is for those who wish to be part of the online discussion group located at yahoo. This is also for members who do not live close enough to come to the Shrine’s physical location in Vancouver BC
Corporeal Membership is for those in the Vancouver BC lower mainland area who wish to get together in person! And meet fairly regularly, either at the shrine, or other locations.
Of course one can be both.
Commitment
It is understood that everyone has very busy lives and it is often hard to commit a lot of time and energy to something. So, one must decide for themselves level of commitment to the shrine, its studies and work.
Commitment to the shrine means: Commitment to improving ones education in The Craft; Commitment to be a better person, it what every form that takes for you; and Commitment to Bettering the Pagan community.
Although this is a casual group, membership should not be taken lightly. This is a group for people who are serious in their studies of the Craft and who want to practice regularly, and of course want to meet and have fun with other pagans.
Becoming a member
Step one: read the above material Step one and a half: decide that you are committed to the Craft and/ or improving your relationship to the Craft though education, ritual and sharing with friends. Step two: email Fairmoon with your request to be a member, with a short bio and why you’d like to join and whether you are seeking Metaphysical or Corporeal membership. Step three: wait… this shouldn’t take long.
Metaphysical Members: Step four: upon approval join the yahoo group and start chatting Corporeal Members Step four: Arrange a time and place to meet with Fairmoon and/or other board members to get to know one another in a casual environment. Step five: bite at your fingernails waiting to hear back from Fairmoon Step six: upon approval come to a shrine meeting or ritual, join the yahoo group and jump right on in.
Rules of Membership:
Membership in the Shrine is by the discretion of the board or directors. One may request membership, or one may be asked to join by one who is already a member.
Members can be of any Pagan/Wiccan/Witch Tradition or background. Members do not have to be affiliated with the Correllian Tradition, however as this Shrine is connected to said Tradition and respect of its beliefs is vital.
No person shall be denied membership because of gender, race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, physical handicap, previous religious association, or age (provided that they have attained the age of legal majority). Candidates for membership who have not attained the age of legal majority may be considered for membership only after permission of their parents or guardians has been given. (and it can be proven that you didn’t fake it)
No person shall be refused membership because of their education level within the craft. People who are brand new to the journey of the Craft will be made welcome, as well as wise Crones who have been practicing their entire lives.
However, the board reserves the right to refuse membership to anyone they feel will not or does not contribute to the Vibe of the Shrine. Or if we think you’re creepy.
The Rules each member must follow
1. Respect for people; this includes, but is not limited to, respect for other members and their beliefs, which may differ; respect for the privacy of each member, phone numbers, addresses and other personal information will not be given out without expressed permission of the individual
2. Respect for the Shrine, both the metaphysical and physical space in which it inhabits. As the shrine is located in a private home, it’s location and address will not be given out without permission of the Shrinekeeper, (that’s Fairmoon by the way), When
3. Respect for faith; this includes, but is not limited to, respect for other pagan faiths as well as their clergy; respect for other world faiths and their clergy.
4. Responsibility; this includes, but is not limited to, being personally responsible for your actions when within in the shrines sacred spaces; and the responsibility to treat the rest of nature as sacred space as well.
5. Live in a manner, which honours the Lord and Lady, following the Wiccan Rede; “Do as you will, but harm none.”
6. Support one another within the Shrine in their personal healing, growth, and aspirations.
7. Honour the Earth and all Her creatures as sacred, and work to heal and protect the environment within our community, throughout our nation, and around the world.
8. These rules can be amended at any time, without notice, or added to, without notice, by members of the board as it becomes necessary.
Any breach of the rules or etiquette listed above will result in suspension of membership privileges in both the Metaphysical and Corporeal shrines, pending a review.
After such review, any further breach will result in expulsion and we’ll tell all our witchy friends you’re a big meanie.

The Raven’s Moon Shrine Pillars
01.22.05 (10:34 am) [edit]
The Raven’s Moon Shrine Pillars
There seem to be many levels in the Shrine creation thing and as I create one, others pop up that need work. So far, I have defined The Physical Shrine, The Metaphysical Shrine and the Cyber Shrine.
The Cyber Shrine is of course here. This blog is the official online site for this Shrine.
The Physical Shrine is my back deck, where, if it had not been snowing the other night, my new moon ritual would have taken place.
The Metaphysical Shrine is of course harder to define as it lives in the ether of the universe and within my soul. Yet at this time, it is the most important location.
“As Above, So Below! As the Universe, So the Soul! As Within, So Without! May the Circle be Open, but never Broken! Merry Meet –Merry Part –and Merry Meet again!
I have begun to create an image of what the metaphysical Shrine looks like, lets begin with the walls.
Much like Grecian temples, there are no solid walls in my Shrine, just pillars and columns. Four Ionic Columns stand in the four corners of the shrine, each of these pillars stand for one of Four Goddesses.
In the North is Hecate; Goddess of the Dark moon, Crone wisdom, magic and Witches. She represents the Crone is the Goddess triad, as well as the solid earth on which we stand. She is part of the Shrine to teach about the Dark mysteries and help to learn about the “dark nature of our souls.” In the East stands Blodewedd, Flowerface. She is the Maiden is the Goddess triad. She is the Goddess of Spring, Innocence and Rebellion against stereotypes. She was created, by two men, to be a dutiful wife. She did not want that life and chose another, and suffered for it. She chose her own path, and did not live with the expectations imposed on her. She was turned to an Owl. She represents the need to challenge misconceptions and the desire to be more than the ‘title’s’ we are judged by.
In the south stands Sophia; Goddess of Gnosis. She is Knowledge and the Power that comes from having Knowledge. She is revered by the Gnostics as the embodiment of Wisdom. She is respected in many faiths and even has her portrait in the Sistine chapel. God has his arm around her.
She therefore represents the knowledge and wisdom to be gained from all sources in this world. One of the goals of the Shrine is to bridge faiths within The Craft and Pagan Communities, as well as with Book Religions and other faiths.
In the West is Brighid, Goddess of the hearth. She is the Mother in the Goddess triad. She is healing, fertility and inspiration. Brighid is also called St. Brigit of Ireland and has a perpetual flame, which burns in honour of her devotees, in Kildare, Ireland. Her womb, does not just bring forth life, but also incubates creative thought and poetry. As the Goddess of inspiration and creation, she represents the creative force and dynamic nature that drive both the Shrine and The Craft.
These four Goddesses create the four pillars on which Raven’s Moon Shrine is founded on.
Each of these pillars are cream marble, with purple veins through out. The stand on a Red and Black Harlequin tiled floor. The roof is open to the starry night sky above.
Surrounding the Shrine is a garden of Honeysuckle, Foxglove, Primrose and Periwinkle. There are bushes of Elder, Rowan, Hawthorn and Oak. Along the southern slope is a Herb Garden filled with Rosemary, Lavender, Mints, and Coriander. All of these plants are tended over by the Fae. They keep the gardens all year round and are sacred members of the Shrine.
This is what I have so far. By way of the Metaphysical Shrine.

Original Sin, from a Witch's point of view
01.14.05 (7:56 am) [edit]
I’ve read of Original Sin, but I have never really understood what it meant or what it implied. I was raised in the United Church of Canada, which takes a fairly liberal view on, well, everything. Original sin was not a concept that I knew of as a child and was not a part of my Sunday school lessons.
Some say that human’s corrupt nature is the cause of strife in the world. However, I’ve always believed that it is human’s Free Will, given to us by God, that causes the corruptness and not being born into sin. I just have such a hard time looking at a newborn baby and thinking of it as a sinner.
My belief is that we are born in the Likeness of God and it is only as we grow up in the strange and scary world of consumerism and capitalism that we lose that likeness and choose paths that take us away from righteousness. We were given Free Will and in doing so we can make the choice of right, or Righteous action, which brings us closer to the Likeness of God, or wrong choices that take us farther away.
Matthew Fox, a spiritual theologian and ordained priest, spoke of original sin as being “self-centeredness”. When we choose selfish actions, we cut ourselves off from the world and God. When we makes decisions to watch out for self first and not help others, and ignore the plight of others we create separating walls around us. We cut ourselves off from knowing God. Yet decisions to help others, heal others, and thinking of others first bring us closer to the oneness with God that we seek.
Until the 4th century, there were two beliefs in the Christian church: 1. that every child was born in the likeness of God with the goodness of creation in his heart unsullied and perfect. Sin could obscure and distort this but could not erase it. God was not separate from creation and a part of all things created by God.
The second was St. Augustine’s doctrine of original sin. According to him, we were born from the Sin of Lust and only by accepting God and Jesus could we cleanse this sin from our souls. In the 4th century after intense political lobbying, the hierarchy of Rome chose to use St. Augustine’s doctrine as its own.
An interesting side note is that the Celts of Britain, and parts of Europe, continued to believe and practice the first concept of Christianity and it came to be known as Celtic Christianity.
In 664, the Council of Whitby decided that there should be only one approach to believe and practice in the Christian Church, the Roman one. The Celtic belief was outlawed.
I believe that a child can be born into sin, not of sin itself. In North America especially, where the ideologies of capitalism and materialism are the new doctrines.
When we buy into those concepts at the expense of our fellow man, we become sinners.
When we raise our children to make lots of money, have many things, and not give anything back, we raise sinners.
When we allow our children to watch violence on TV or play violent video games they become sinners.
I believe that children are born with the Pureness of Creation in his/her heart and we have the choice to teach them the Righteous path and stay close to the Likeness of God, or teach them to stray.
My final thought on Original Sin. If my father told me repeatedly as I grew up that, I was a terrible person, going to go to hell, that I was a sinner and evil it would be called child abuse. Yet a church, a place of spiritual enlightenment, hope and safety for many, has been saying that to millions of people for over a thousand years and it’s called a religion. How is it different?

Do Witches Worship Satan?
01.13.05 (5:56 am) [edit]
WARNING this blog may seriously offend some readers. If you choose to continue reading, please do so with an open mind. If you read this, you do so by your own volition and though no fault of mine, may be forced to change your misconceptions of Witches.
If after reading this you feel a sudden urge to preach bible verses at me, please do not waste your time. Your energy would be better spent in a Christian act of Charity, such as feeding the homeless children in your city, sorting your winter clothes and giving them to a shelter, or just loving your neighbour, even if he is a different religion. REMEMBER I warned you.
“Whether or not witches actually worshipped him [Satan], I don't know. But they did call on something or someone who wasn't God, so it basically comes down to the same thing.”
Once a long time ago I had an email from a Christian about witches and Satan. In her email, she wrote the above line. hhhmmmm, it stuck with me, and this is how I respond to that. When witches do Rituals or Spells they call on the Divine. Some called the Universal Power, or they say Goddess and God, or they use specific names for the Lord and Lady, like Hecate, Pan, Gaia, and Zeus. In some practices, it is named the Creator, which is another name for God.
They are not calling on Satan or the devil. They evoke the power of the Creator and many choose to divide the Essence of the Creator into two, The Goddess, or female energy and the God, the male energy.
When I look at the sun at sunrise it looks very different than it does at noon and even different yet again at sunset. The sunlight shimmering through the clouds looks very different from sunlight dancing through the trees, yet it is that same sun, the same light shining down upon me.
Then there is a rainbow and it’s all these different colours and looks so very different from the sun, but it comes from the same source, the sun.
There are millions of different people on this planet all with very different lives, cultures and communities.
Would it not make sense then that God, the Universal Power, the Creator of all these different people, would show himself in different ways so that each person could comprehend him?
As said above Witches most often honour the Creator as Goddess and God, Duel and Equal.
So who is this Satan person? ***
The original meaning of the word, or name Satan, was adversary. He, Lucifer, was one of Gods angels, one of his lieutenants in the Army of God, when Angels carried swords instead of harps and were feared by most people. Lucifer did not want to be second to God, He wanted all the Power, and he tried to take it. Of course going up against the Granddaddy Ma Cheezmo of the World was a fool’s errand and he got blasted from the Heavens and sent down to Hell.
The Thing we have to remember about Satan is this. God created everything, so therefore created his adversary too. Why the heck would anyone want to do that? If God was truly all knowing and all seeing wouldn’t he have known the Lucifer was going to rebel?
You cannot have an omniscient God and then say he was duped by the devil. Here’s what I figure.
God knew what he was doing. He created Contrast when he created Lucifer. He made Darkness, so we could know light, suffering so we could feel joy. He wanted us to be able to know the difference, so out pops the Devil.
When God created him as his antagonist, he wasn’t evil. He just became evil when Christianity realized they had the greatest scapegoat, and the ultimate excuse not to take personal responsibility for their actions. The devil made me do it. Yes, yes I know another grand sweeping generalization about Christians, I humbly apologize (“Like grand sweeping generalizations never happen to Witches”, she mutters sarcastically under her breath.)
So Do witches worship him?
Nope. Most witches don’t even believe in him. He’s a Christian concept for the Christian faith. Witches take responsibility for there actions because we have the Law of Three, That which we do will return to us three fold IN THIS LIFE TIME.
We do bad, we’re getting it back at us three times as bad. That’s a heck of a lot scarier than Hell after we die. Then who Does worship Satan?
It would be at this point that I write Satanists. But even that isn’t quite accurate. After wandering around a fascinating site, I discovered that True Satanists don’t even worship Satan.
And I quote, “Satan is not a real, living entity, conscious or a physical thing that can be interacted with. It is a symbol, something ethereal, something that basically doesn't exist except as an emotional attachment and personal dream. Just like Buddhists do not worship Buddha, Satanists hold up Satan as an ultimate principal rather than an object of literal worship. Satan inspires and provokes people, like all (honest) religions the ultimate point is self-help. God believers have a different opinion on what Satan is, but their opinion is a result of their religion. Satanism's Satan is much more eclectic and multicultural than to be defined by Christianity or Islam.” *
So, I guess no one does. Sorry Dude, you’ve got one helluva bum rap.
* This quote came from the website Satanism, Description, Philosophies and Justification of Satanism from the section with an adorable fluffy Satan doll marking this, url . It’s worth a visit cuz it’s so gosh darn cute!
*** Please be advised that this blog is the opinion of person and does not reflect the opinions of management, supervisors, higher divinity (though it might) or anyone in anyway responsible for the running of the universe. Though I'm sure some of you are now say it could be Satan.

Hecate, Goddess, Keep me Whole, Let thy Wisdom Fill my Soul
01.12.05 (6:14 am) [edit]
Hecate, Goddess, Keep me Whole, Let thy Wisdom Fill my Soul.
It was snowing in Vancouver. It never snows in Vancouver. Okay, it doesn’t, but not all that often, not like the rest of Canada. It was because of this snow that I didn’t do my New moon ritual outside, but did it instead indoors at my altar.
I followed the ritual that I had written, (see post) and meditated for a while.
Did I have a profound experience; did I feel the presence of Hecate as I did my ritual? No.
And that’s okay. Not all rituals have to be profound, and to be true I was doing the ritual more for myself, than for the Divine. I felt a need to honour Hecate and reunite myself with the Divine. In fact I was being quite pushy, so it’s isn’t much surprise that the divine did not respond.
After the ritual was done, I have a bath and continued meditating for a time. Again no great enlightening experience, but my toe had been cold all day, and now there were warm.
Then I went to bed.
So why am I bothering to report this non-event? Because as a good lit’ witch it is important to record what happened. Like keeping minutes of a meeting, I guess.
And in the end, I feel like being honest. Any witch who tells you all rituals are serious and profound is full of it. Something you perform the ritual and it is just perfunctory, and seems a little meaningless. But it’s not. Doing ritual keeps one connected and paves the way for great things to happen.
So there you go. My ritual. Soon I’ll be posting some more interesting stuff about my shrine creation. I’m almost finished creating the Pillars. (Metaphysical Pillars)
Oh, by the way a good potion of the ritual including the chant used in the subject heading came from the website Hecate’s Cauldron

Ever wonder what this is all about? (I'm talking about my blog, not the big picture)
01.11.05 (4:09 pm) [edit]
Welcome to the information page for the Raven's Moon Shrine. This is a Shrine in Creation and here there will be posting updates to its development. Raven's moon Shine will be a personal shrine in the Correllian Nativist Tradition, see links, when it is created. In the mean time check back regularly for updates, ritual reports and other infomation.
Raven's Moon Shrine chronicles the journey of one woman as she creates not just a physical space dedicated to The Craft, but also chronicles her personal journey as she attempts to define her faith and place in the universe.
Blessed be, Fairmoon

One Definition of the Divine
01.11.05 (2:02 pm) [edit]
As I work out the definition of what I want my shrine to be dedicated to, I find that I am also defining my beliefs. As of right now, this week today, I believe the following. As I read and learn more, I know that my definition will change. This is an integral part of a spiritual journey, or spiritual path. I continue to grow and learn and evolve as I gain wisdom.
In my last post, I wrote of the commonalties between The Craft and Christianity. Now I find myself mentioning the differences. The Craft is a journey, a path as illustrated above. For many people, not everyone, Christianity is a religion that is static. You believe the same things about God as a child and as an adult. Yes, I did just make a wide sweeping generalization and I know it’s not true for all Christians. I’m just trying to illustrate a point. It is this static nature of Christianity that made it feel lacking. Just as the freedom of movement within The Craft drew me in.
Okay, I’m losing where I was going.
Yes, right, my definition of the Divine. As I’ve been working out this definition I’ve had a number of conversations with friends about it and there beliefs. The question was posed, what is the difference, if any between Religion and Spirituality?
And here are some of the answers: An email friend said this:
“The difference between spirituality and religion is religion is an organization. That and spirituality is generally a result of a genuine path while religion you join or are born into.”
During a conversation with another friend, that friend said:
religion was external, and involved worship. Spirituality was internal and something done for ones self.
Which lead me to ask if he thought my rituals were religion or spirituality.
He then asked, do I believe in the Goddesses/Gods. If I did and was doing my rituals for them then, it became religion.
If I was doing them for my own personal need, then it was spirituality. So to him anything involving worship was religion, when it was honouring or something of that ken it wasn’t.
This of course caused me to define my beliefs about the Divine.
Did I believe I was worshiping a deity, or was I doing it for personal need? When I did my ritual for Hecate, did I really believe that a higher power looking like an Old Lady in a Black Robe was watching over me, and even cared what I was doing?
Hhhhmmmm, tough questions.
So here, we go in the wonderful world of Fairmoon's Spiritual beliefs.
Oh and by the way, I DO NOT define my faith as a religion. I do not worship. I honour and celebrate. See post “another email” at this site.
So, yes I define it as spiritual not religion. Because I believe the dictionary.com definition of religion:
A. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
B. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
Fairmoon's Beliefs about the Divine
An analogy that is used excessively, and therefore annoys me, but works is this:
The divine is like a diamond. One object, but when cut and moulded by humans comes to have many facets. Each of these facets is a face of the divine. This is how you get all the great pantheons of the world, Greek and Roman- Zeus, Jupiter, Hera, Gaia; Norse- Balder, Odin, Loki. This is also of course why there are so many religions today. Christians are looking at one face, Hindus at another, Wiccan at another and so on.
Do I believe this analogy? Most of the time I do, but I also have my moments of doubt. I think we all do.
My friend then said that, that was a good way of looking at it, but couldn’t it be that as humans we’ve taken something that is so beyond our own comprehension and anthropomorphized it to have human qualities?
There is no way our brains can comprehend how many stars there are in the sky, so we say, as many grains of sand on the beach, but we can no easier understand that either.
Saying that though, gives us an image. Something we can picture and even touch if we go to the beach.
To him the creation of God/s is the same thing. The universe and why we are in it is incomprehensible to us, so we’ve created something we can understand. God, or a pantheon of Gods with human characteristics and in many pantheons human foibles as well. We have an image, many images, to bring understanding comfort and if we go to Church or the Mosque or our favourite tree in the woods we can touch It too.
Much like the Chicken and her egg, which came first? Did God create man, or did man create God? And in the case of Christianity, God created man in His image, just to prove a point.
Do I believe this analogy? Did man create God? It would certainly explain why there are so many Goddess and Gods running amok in the world.
I’m not entirely sure I believe this analogy either. I do believe that Goddess and God are Archetypal, something that we have imposed on them. Jesus, Balder, Osiris and Dionysis are the Archetypes of the Sun God or Sun Child. Mary, Demeter, and Ishtar are Mother Archetypes. And so on and so forth.
But did we create Them? Or did we create the Archetypes from our interactions with Them? And we’re back to the Chicken and the Egg.
Which ever the case, and I honestly don’t have answer to this, I love the beauty that believing brings me.
And I respect and honour the comfort believing brings to people. Can you imagine taking away someone beliefs? Let’s just rip their hope from their hearts at the same time, because believing in a higher power, no matter what shape that takes, gives people hope. It gives them strength and a place in the universe.
Knowing what is above you, and believing something is there gives people a reference point for their lives. Take away the map and we’re lost. I told my friend this too.
I know I believe that.
So where did we get? What is my conclusion? I don’t know for sure what I believe, but I love the journey and I love the beauty believing has brought me.
As I create my shrine and choose the Patron Goddess, I realise that I love working within this framework. This framework of believing there are multiple Goddesses out there who take human form. I love the grace that different Goddesses have brought into my life. While they are all vying for a place of honour in my shrine, I am enjoying that I believe enough to imagine Goddesses having a catfight over my proverbial Golden Apple.

I am a Witch
01.11.05 (12:08 pm) [edit]
I am a Witch. I practice The Craft. I believe in The Goddess and The God as equal beings. I do not worship Satan or practice black magic and cast evil spells on people.
I had my first comment from a very concerned catholic here at my blog. (see below) These sorts of comments always bring up many questions in my head. This person (see comment) have obvious concern for my mortal soul, my question is, why?
I don’t know this person. I don’t live in his community or even his country, and yet his concern for me has caused him to leave a rude and insulting post at my site. Why? What does this person gain from doing this?
It is as base as a need for moral superiority? A desire to prove to God that he is winning back lost to the flock?
By insulting my beliefs and my friends, does he think I’m going repent my evil ways and rejoin the Christian faith?
Well here’s a shocker. I’m a Christian. I was born into a Christian family, baptized in a Christian Church, later confirmed in the very same church. Attend service and remarkably don’t burst into flames when I step over the threshold of said church.
I am also a Witch. How could this be? The two are diametrically apposed everyone says. Not really actually, not as much as most Christians would have the world believe. Much of what Christianity is based on has roots in Pagan faiths, namely Egyptian and Greek Cultures, the stories of Osiris and Dionysis parallel that of Jesus almost letter for letter. Books such as “Pagan Christ” and the “Jesus Mysteries” argue these theories. I highly recommend both of them.
But back to this need to insult to make me atone for my sins. I still don’t understand where that comes from. What’s the bible quote that says this is the way to win over sinners for Jesus? I know there must be one somewhere, there’s a Bible quote for everything.
I’d really like some answers to this, please feel free to post about it.
So what does it mean to be both a Christian and a Witch? Well it’s actually every simple. I like to keep things simple so why should my faith be any different.
The bare bones of Christianity and The craft are the same. In Christianity, there is the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is a rule that is sorely lacking respect these days in many so called Christian Communities. Now don’t get all riled up, I said SOME, not all. I know many Good Christians who follow this belief and I love them dearly for it.
In The Craft, there is the Rede, it’s actually quite long, and some people ignore most of it, except for the last part, which, is the most important part. “Do as ye will, but harm thee none”, that’s the fancy way of saying it.
When you break down both of those rules to get the same meaning, “be a good person and respect others.” can’t get more basic than that, can you?
Of course both the Craft and the Christian faith are more complex then just these two lines, but to me they make up the base on which the rest of the faith balances on. I can see the commonalities within these two faiths I find it easy to incorporate them both into my daily life.
So just how do I define my faith? Well that will have to be another post.
Here is the comment that was posted by LynnKrammer, you can visit his site here http://lynnkramer.tblog.com/: (he was commenting on my post "letter to my mentor")
More like a letter from a monster. I want to share with you a very deep concern I have about Rev. First Degree Flopping Mentor Full Moons, Ph.D.. Wait! Before you dismiss me as litigious, hear me out. Couldn't you figure that out for yourself, Rev. Full Moons? It's unfortunate that she has no real education. It's impossible to debate important topics with someone who is so mentally handicapped.
Her editorials reek of negativism. I use the word "reek", because her faculty for deception is so far above anyone else's, it really must be considered different in kind as well as in degree. As part of her efforts to gain a mainstream following, Rev. Full Moons publishes the Journal of Demonic Misoneism. Included alongside articles discussing history, culture, art, religion, and philosophy are endorsements of Rev. Full Moons's plans to devalue me as a person. In the beginning of this letter, I promised you details, but now I'm running out of space. So here's one detail to end with: Pecksniffian immoralism has come to occupy an addlepated place in the national dialogue.

New moon Hecate Ritual
01.10.05 (5:50 am) [edit]
Tonight is the new moon which is sacred to Hecate. If you've been following along with all these posts you'll know that Hecate is important to me at this point in time and I'm going to do a thank you to her tonight. Below is a copy of the ritual that I wrote for tonight. Feel free to borrow or steal any and all of it for your own ritual purposes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Moon January 10 2005
I walk this circle once around To bless and consecrate this ground.
I walk this circle once again, Through the worlds all time can bend.
I walk the circle thrice this time, For the protection of the Lord and Lady are mine.
May the circle never be broken May the earth always be whole May the rattle ever be shaken May Hecate live in my soul.
Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the east, the powers of air. I call upon the Akashic Records and breathe of existence. Be with me this night.
Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtowers of the south, the powers of fire. I call upon the cauldron of fire and knowledge. Be with me this night.
Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the east, the powers of water. I call upon the deep oceans' mysteries and the ebb and flow of all life. Be with me this night.
Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the north, the powers of earth. I call upon the cloak of covering and fruits of the mantle. Be with me this night.
In Honor of Most Lovely One, Goddess Hecate Quiet is the night Dark is the Moon I ask Hecate, the Crone To take Her throne. Sleep, sister, sleep Be not alarmed, For the Great Goddess Keeps you from harm. Quiet is the night Dark is the Moon I ask Hecate, the Crone To take Her throne. Sleep, brother sleep, Be not alarmed, For the Great Goddess Holds you in her arms. Quiet is the night Dark is the Moon. We honor Hecate the Crone Who has taken Her throne.
Welcome Hecate to my circle and to my Shrine of the Raven’s moon. Be welcome and come freely to this space for it is for you that I honour this night. At Samhain past you brought your blessings to me and for that I am grateful. The lessons you have helped me to learn have both humbled me and given me confidence on my path.
I wish to express my deepest thanks for helping me understand my darkness and see the light to continue along my path.
The Raven’s Moon Shrine will be dedicated to understanding the Dark Mysteries of Life. I seek your blessing for this Shrine as it is my wish that you be a Patron to this Shrine.
At this time I wish only to seek your blessing as I work to create this shrine. I ask for a sign that you approve and join me.
Wisdom Chant Hecate, Crone Goddess, Keep me whole Let thy wisdom fill my soul.
Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the east, the powers of air. I thank you for your presence, Go if you must, stay if you will, in perfect love and trust.
Hail to thee Guardians of the watchtowers of the south, the powers of fire. I thank you for your presence, Go if you must, stay if you will, in perfect love and trust.
Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the east, the powers of water. I thank you for your presence, Go if you must, stay if you will, in perfect love and trust. Hail to thee guardians of the watchtowers of the north, the powers of earth. I thank you for your presence, Go if you must, stay if you will, in perfect love and trust.
May the circle never be broken May the earth always be whole May the rattle ever be shaken May Hecate live in my soul.
“Behold: As Above, So Below! As the Universe, So the Soul! As Within, So Without! May the Circle be Open, but never Broken! Merry Meet –Merry Part –and Merry Meet again!
Another email
01.09.05 (7:51 am) [edit]
I have this friend, okay he's a total stranger that i meet thru witchvox. We've been having these great email chats about all sorts of things. The following is a section of an email i worte too him. I add it here becasue in it i defined a lot of my thoughts about ritual and the shrine, something i hadn't really done before. It's written very casually too, which is something else I don't often do when writing about spirituality, but I liked what i wrote and as i said to him in a following email a would be writer would never pass up an opportunity to publish (in any form) well written quips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ he wrote:
What I'm curious about in terms of rituals is pretty much all of it. The nature, history, and validity of ancient rituals. And their effects outside the realm of the scientifically explainable. I heard this story once about Yeats, where one of his fellow occultists held a card up to his forehead which provoked in the poets imagination an image in keeping with the symbol on the card. The symbol was from an ancient culture that Yeats had no knowledge of and yet, the knowledge was somehow there. The question is one of an ever expanding nature. I've got tons of books on the subject and the library has more; so I guess I'm just curious about you personal experiences with whatever rituals you've partaken and what results were experienced. Feel free to lie about group nudity for dramatic effects.
I wrote:
My experience with ritual is diverse, now that I think about it. When I first sat down to answer the question I thought I was going to say, 'not a lot', but I guess I have done a fair number of rituals. I'm just not sure what sort of ritual you want me to spout off about. Your choices are: 1. Strictly magical, Wiccan moony rituals 2. Shamanistic, sweatlodgish, weird native teas, rituals 3. The everyday ritual that is being a witch (not all witches agree on this aspect) 4. A combo of the above mentioned, which would be very very long, take me years to write and force me to neglect my son, but would provide a publishable book, rituals
Okay a quickie for you. (teehee, couldn't help myself) Generally most of the rituals I perform, or take part in are of the number 1 variety In the craft there are 8 major holidays a year, (I'm sorry if I’m telling you stuff you already know, I just don't know what you know) I have a small coven that gets together and celebrates them We occasionally do full moon, or new moon rituals as well, but we're usually too busy.
Each holiday represents a number of different things, a season, a passage of time, a part of the Great Goddess/ God epic, all of which are easily found in books. We usually choose one or two of these elements, celebrate, and honour them. Mostly we write our own stuff or cut and paste from other peoples rituals. I know I’m not being very specific, just setting the ground work.
Last Halloween, Samhain to those in the know, we got together and did a ritual honouring the past year and our loved ones, especially those who had died recently. We also did a blessing spell, which involved the Goddess Hecate. I can send you the actual for real ritual we did if you want, but I think you're looking more for my thoughts and opinion about the rites.
Anyways for this spell with Hecate's involvement, we used a key as our symbol. We were unlocking something, a part of ourselves, or whatever, very ritualistically "letting go" of something. It was a good ritual, but I was uncomfortable because my idiot neighbour was out on his back deck BBQing. It was Oct 30th, cold, raining and 9 pm, what the hell was he doing out BBQing? Anyways, I got other issues with my wacky neighbour.
Back to the spell. For me I felt it was important to let go of my fear of being 'out of the broom closet' and being a publicly known witch. I don't tell a lot of people, and I’m always a bit nervous about their reactions. So I wanted some help to get over that.
Our group isn't very serious, we laugh a lot and mostly just have fun together. All of our rituals involve laughing and the more serious we try to be the more we end up laughing. I guess that’s what you get when you have six scantly clad girls drinking soft mead and casting Glamour's on each other. It's just a witchypoo slumber party! Teehee.
But seriously. It wasn't until just a week or so ago that the spell sorta 'kicked in' and my confidence about being who I am has jumped up a few hundred degrees. Probably the reason I emailed you.
For me it's really important to honour that and to honour Hecate for the influence that she gave. (to be honest my belief system around gods and Goddesses isn't fully formed. So don't write back asking do I really believe in Goddess and Gods. Cuz you'd send me into some sort of spiritual crisis trying to come up with an answer) But like the true Christian-Buddhist-Islami c-Jew-Witch that I am, I'm not taking any chances. better safe, and covered, I always say.
Monday is the new moon and that evening I'm planning on doing another ritual to thank Hecate for her help and blessings. I'll light some candles, say some incantations, and freeze my naked butt off outside. (that WAS a joke!)
I guess the important thing for me when it comes to ritual and my whole belief system is honouring. I would never say I worship a Goddess or God. Worship invites the image of them on a pedestal and I kneeing below. I prefer a more equal footing with my divinity and so I honour not just the outside source of the divinity, but the divinity within me as well.

I have a second degree mentor. Her name is Karla. Hi Karla!! This is a letter to and from her that helped me figure out what this shrine is going to be about. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
"Karla Summers" wrote:
I noticed sooo many shrines and temples with power names like shrine of the firey pentacle and such that since I chose to make this a family shrine I wanted warm and welcoming.
I've noticed that too. I like your name because it is open and friendly. I still am not sure what I want my shrine to represent but I think it will end up being a "womans mysteries" shrine because i feel like i need something that is more private, and the only other correllian in my area is a creepy guy who i don't want coming to my shrine. That's not the only reason, When i meditate about the shrine, I always get this image of Hecate. She doesn't frighten me, but I feel like she wants me to know moe about her. This Shrine is important to her. I guess with the moon and the dark name this shrine will be about Dark mysteries, moon mysteries and those seem to be under the influence of women.
Wow! I think i just figured it out! Thanks. All i needed was a little ramble to you and there we go! This I'll have to be posted at the shrine site now!

Hecate Key Blessing
01.02.05 (11:18 am) [edit]
During Samhain (Oct 29 2004) my coven sisters and I did a ritual where we did the following spell/blessing. (See below) What magical door did I ask to be opened? I wanted to let go of my fear of judgement. I don’t tell many people that I’m a Witch because I feel so judged and really it’s no ones business anyway. However I wanted to start working with interfaith, and I felt scared and insecure with that. My confidence was lacking. So I asked Hecate to help me get over that. Help me to find the confidence and not be afraid of my calling.
I’m not entirely sure when she jumped in and helped, or when my own confidence kick started itself. Just one day I felt unbelievably frustrated with myself and I was angry. It took some time to figure out what that was all about, and then it hit me. I wasn’t following my path, During my self dedication a path was laid out for me, by the Divine itself and I’d been ignoring it.
So I got off my ass and started figuring out my plan and this is how we got here, to this spot today. I highly recommend the Hecate Key blessing it was a wonderful working. Jan 10 is the new moon, or dark moon, Hecate’s moon, on that Date I will be doing a thank-you ritual for Hecate. Check back for updates.
Blessings, Fairmoon
PS The following Blessing was found at Witchschool.com in the "Ritual in Theory and Practice" Course. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
Hecate Key Blessing
Hecate is the ancient Greek Goddess of magic and witchcraft. A Moon Goddess, Hecate had aspects as Maiden and mother, but was pre-eminently thought of as the Crone. For many Hecate remains the consummate Crone, and special Patron of Samhain.
Also called Trivia, “The Triune,” images of Hecate often has three heads or three bodies. The black dog was Hecate’s animal form, and She is connected to Cerberus the three-headed black dog Who guarded the gates of the Otherworld in Greek mythology.
Hecate’s symbols include the lighted torch, common to most Greek chthonic Gods, the ritual knife and the scourge, as well as the key. It is with this last symbol that this Act of Power deals.
They key is a very powerful symbol. The key unlocks what is hidden, reveals mysteries. “A key… A skeleton key perhaps (a little Samhain humour there).
“What is a key? The opener of doors: The revealer of hidden things. A key gives passage into what has been barred. A key makes a path through barriers.
“We all have barriers. We wish to move forward in our lives, but often do not. Situations that we need answers or understanding for yet they allude us. Paths, which seem to lead only to locked doors. Locked doors for which we need a key…
“The Key is the symbol of the great Crone Goddess, Mistress of Magic. Magic can open locked doors –especially those that are within us. She –our Goddess- can open all doors, answer all questions. All knowledge is Hers –and therefore also ours if we seek it through Her.
“Consider this, as we look upon these keys. They are only tokens of Her power – symbols to help us call upon Her ability to open and transform. Symbols of a process we invoke. Symbols are ‘keys’ that help us understand what we need to do to open our personal locked doors.
“Therefore as we bless these keys let us think of our Lady in Her form as Crone, and invoke Her transformative powers into our lives through these symbols of Her wisdom.”
The Blessing Chant
"Darksome Goddess -send a Key Blessed with Samhain energy! Open my eyes that I might see What answers may await for me!" Continue to chant until the energy has built up enough, then stop and have everyone focus the energy into the keys. You might say:
“Now let us focus the energy we have raised into the keys –imagine the energy rushing into the keys, filling it with light and power. See the energy glowing, filling each key, shining with strength and light. Imagine the keys glowing as if it were a sun in the center of our Circle, light radiating in all directions!
“O Great Crone Goddess! Hecate! Queen of Night, Mother of Mysteries! You Who guard all secrets and all hidden things –in Your name may these keys be blessed! May they bring us the answers to our questions –the openings we seek in our lives! Holy Lady, Grandmother, aid us in this our undertaking, we pray! So Mote it Be!” “Now take a moment to think about your life. Think of a situation or a question whose solution eludes you –a part of your life that seems blocked or closed to progress, which needs to be answered or opened up. A situation for which you need a key…
“One by one, we will each take a key–as you take your key, close your eyes and focus on the situation you have thought of, and ask the Crone to guide you.” “We will take our keys home tonight, after the ritual, and use them to bring us the unlocking of the situations we have focused on. If you choose ,carry your key with you, in your pocket or on a chain, keep it under your bed at night, or place it on your altar, until your situation is resolved. Resolution will come soon.”

What is a Correllian Shrine?
01.02.05 (11:03 am) [edit]
What is a Correllian Shrine?
In the Correllian Tradition the congregation, or rather the members of the Trad. often become members of a Temple or Shrine. This is similar to being a member of a specific church or mosque.
Correllian temples are the most formal of these groups and are made ‘official’ by the Heads of the Tradition thought the Chancellor of the Correllian Church. There are many Temples where Correllian’s gather, but they are only official if charted by the Trad.
On the more casual side there are shrines. Personal shrines, Formal Shrines and Witan Shrines. Personal shrines are the most casual and often have diverse membership, not just Correllian’s. Formal Shrines are as they some more formal and are chartered for a specific reason, perhaps to teach or conduct specific rituals. Witan Shrines are Proto-Temples they will eventually become Temples after a specific trial period is over.
The Raven’s Moon Shrine, is a personal Shrine. This means, as the creator, I have complete autonomy over the Shrines Rules and by-laws. To be Chartered there are certain standards that must be upheld, but generally anything goes.
This has caused the fundamental problem with its creation. I’m having trouble determining just what I want to say about my shrine. Or rather what I want my Shrine to say about me. I have borrowed the by-laws of some of the other Correllian shrines to read and help me in the writing of mine, but I have yet to be inspired.
All I do know at this point is that I am called to do this and so I’m bumbling my way through….
Blessings, Fairmoon

The Start of a Journey
01.02.05 (9:12 am) [edit]
Here is a write up about my Self dedication to The Correllian Tradition. It was during this ritual that I started on the path Towards creating a Shrine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Self Dedication ritual to the Correllian Tradition.
August 22, 2004
A number of years ago I did a separate dedication Rite to dedicate myself to the Wiccan Path. It was a little odd feeling to do it again, but this time it was to the Correllian Tradition.
I began by setting up the ritual space and altar. I did this outside on my back deck. It is a wonderful space, wooden deck, with lots of herbs and plants and tress surrounding it. Early this year we putt of a pavilion to create shade in the heat of the day. It makes a wonderful space.
I added my two newest ritual items. A Pentagram made of Holly. I made it myself and blessed it as part of the ritual. I hung it on the fence where it blends in and some may not even notice it hanging there. I also hung up my star lantern, my gift to myself for completing my classes. It holds a tea light in the center and is metal and glass. I hung it from the beam of the upper deck on a chain. It hangs in the East.
After setting up the altar, in the north, and making sure everything was ready I had a ritual bath to cleanse and prepare myself for the ritual. I then dressed in my ritual clothes, but I felt so strange and awkward in my robe that I changed my clothes into something comfortable.
One thing that I didn’t do, that I normally do, is I didn’t write out invocations. I let them happen as I felt as I worked through the ritual. This is the first time that I didn’t write something down and it felt a lot less awkward and stilted.
It was great afternoon, it had stopped raining, was a little bit windy and the air smelled clean and fresh.
Crows cawed in the maples above and my cat Penny settled herself in a flower pot, in the west, and dozed. She claims to be my familiar, yet does very little work and has a rather short attention span. :) During the ritual I used my pendulum to talk to the Goddess.
This is what we talked about.
First, I questioned my need to do the healing part of the rite. I have been though a lot of personally healing and taking many journeys along the healing path. Sometimes in the company of the Goddess, more often on my own. I felt that I did not really need to do this part because there have been so many other times the Goddess has witnessed me doing this already.
She agreed that it was not necessary and we moved on. We spoke also of the dedication itself and she suggested to me that it was not necessary to do either. I did not completely understand but she said, "I was already born to it" it was so infused in my soul that there was no reason to do the dedication. However, it was a nice gesture and Confirmed that I now knew what had been there all along.
This is something I have often felt before with witchcraft. I often feel that I am just being reminded of something I had forgotten, not learning something new.
Anyways, she presented me with a new craft name, Fairmoon.
We talked a bit about fear and that I felt quite exposed out in my backyard with an altar lighted with candles and frankincense incense perfuming the air. She told me it was time to give up being afraid of what others think. I said I would work on it. *grin*
I then asked if there was anymore that she wished to tell me. From her there was nothing, but others had things for me to learn.
The Watchtowers, North and East, South and West, wished to impress upon me that I am to create a shrine here in Vancouver. They even told me the name "The Raven's Moon Shrine." I told them I would start the prep work after Labour Day.
It is a part of my purpose they said. It was one of the reasons the Correllian Tradition was brought to me. Which sounds so weird, I know, `brought to me.' but that is what they said.
Finally, the God told me something interesting too. He wanted to let me know that even though setting up an altar and getting out all the ritual paraphernalia was fun and in the beginning helps create focus. Now, it was not necessary; I do not need to use them as tools to focus anymore. I can do it all myself.
When I want to do ritual I do not have to lots of prep work, I can just sit-down and `feel' the ritual. Its fun to do ceremony sometimes and important to keep up the practice but not required.
I realize how all of this might sound to some, it all sounds rather hokey to me at times, but then again it feels completely right, so I'm going with it.
Now what to do with it... :) We'll have to see. One last thing: A note about Pendulum use. With a pendulum it is most common to ask `yes and no' questions. Over my years of practice, I have reached a point in my experience where the pendulum now acts as a confirmation to statements I already know. I do not `see' the spirits I talk to, but rather hear them speaking and the pendulum confirms that I am hearing them correctly. This is why I can get an abundance of information from with this tool. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So that's how this whole thing started. Just thought you might like to know. Blessings, Fairmoon
